The Christmas Chronicles

Starring: Kurt Russell, Darby Camp, Judah Lewis, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Oliver Hudson, Lamorne Morris

Director: Clay Kaytis

Netflix has been on an original Christmas movie kick for the last few years, and it's been pretty hit or miss if we're being honest. The height of their Christmas movie success has obviously been A Christmas Prince, who's sequel was just released this week. Few others have reached such acclaim but The Christmas Chronicles definitely deserves to.

The movie follows two siblings, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy (Judah) who are still mourning the loss of their silly Christmas loving father (Oliver Hudson). In an attempt to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera they end up going on an all night adventure to try to get the children of the world's presents back and delivered on time.

The kids and Santa run into quite a few snags along the way including disbelieving cops, runaway reindeer, Chicago gangsters and even a little stint in jail. The movie is filled with funny moments, but even more so touching moments.

The relationship between Katie and Teddy is heartwarming. Those of us with siblings know what it's like to go from arguing with your sibling to hugging them in .2 seconds. As someone with an older brother it hits a little harder. There is nothing like an older brother willing to do almost anything to protect their little sister. And nothing quite like a little sister who will do anything to make their older brother whom they adore feel better.

Kurt Russell truly shines in his role as Santa Claus and may be one of the coolest Santa's ever. He brings a fresh take to a character that has been played many times, and may just be the Santa we didn't know we needed.

The movie leaves a warm feeling in your heart by the end and most definitely tears in your eyes. The movie, as many other Christmas movies do, remind us to believe in the magic of Christmas and love.

Everyone has a Netflix account and everyone should take the time to watch this movie. Preferably with someone who won't judge you for crying.
